WHAT IS THE NDIS?
The NDIS(National Disability Insurance Scheme) is all about giving you choice and control.
NDIS Participants determine how much control they want over management of their funding, supports and providers
The NDIS is:
• Person centred
• Outcome based
• Rigorous analysis and evaluation
• Dynamic management
The NDIS means the Rights of Persons living with disabilities are respected, respect for their worth, dignity and to live free from abuse, neglect and exploitation.
The NDIS means:
• Changes in the lives of participants, their families and carers – in community and/or employment participation
• Quality outcomes – Social inclusion and community connectedness
HOW THE NDIS HELPS YOU:
The NDIS Supports You in your community. With the NDIS YOU set your own goals.
Your goals could be:
• Home/living – Becoming more independent
• Education/Employment – learning new skills or getting a job
• Community access & participation – get more active in your community
• Leisure and recreation – improve relationships and make friends
To Support independence, social and economic participation – not passive
• Provide reasonable and necessary supports, including early intervention
• Enable people to exercise choice and control in pursuit of goals, and in planning and delivery of their supports
• Facilitate nationally consistent approach to access, planning and funding of supports
• Promote provision of high quality, innovative supports to maximise independent lifestyles and full inclusion in the community
• Give effect to obligations under international conventions
THE NDIS AND YOUR NDIS PLAN
The NDIS is all about YOU and YOUR PLAN. Your plan is you key to accessing NDIS funding for you support needs.
Preparing your plan is important, and you should pre-prepare before your planning meeting with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC)
Your NDIS budget is split into 3 categories:
• Core
• Capital
• Capacity Building
Certain kinds of assistance fall into each different category:
CORE
Assistances with Daily Living like home help with dressing or home cleaning falls into the Core category – Assistance with Daily Life. Consumables includes things like e.g. continence products. Payments for Carers to help you attend activities falls into the Assistance with Social and Community Participation.
CAPITAL
Any vehicles e.g. Wheelchairs or Modifications to your home would fall into this category.
CAPACITY
Courses, or recreational activities fall into this category.
THE NDIS PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES
